Southwest Michigan Winery and tasting room

White Pine Harvest News 2019

The Fall Equinox has passed, and the nights are longer than the days. This is harvest season in wine country, when we need the heat in the morning and the air conditioning in the afternoon. Our fall weather conditions produce wines that are well – balanced, fruit – driven and age-worthy. It’s a beautiful time to tour the countryside, visit farm markets, wineries and your favorite place for a walk. Enjoy the cool, fall air, the change in light as the sun sinks lower in the sky and a glass of your favorite wine. We have some great new wines for you to sample in the tasting room, some new awards and our 9th annual Hunter Widow food and wine pairing event is just around the corner.

WIne making season is underway at White Pine! While our vines produced no crop this year due to winter damage  from the polar vortex, we are purchasing grapes from the Traverse City area (Chardonnay, Pinot grigio and Riesling) and Washington (Merlot and Cabernet franc) so we will have wine next year.  The grapes from different regions will produce fine wines, just a little different than our own Lake Michigan Shore appellation.  We do have locally grown grapes for a number of our wines including Dune Shadow Red, White Expression, Red Expression, Ice Wine and Mirage.  This is part of what our growing region brings so we adapt as needed.

In the meantime we have some wines from past vintages that we have released this fall!

New Releases:

2018 Pinot grigio: Crisp, light and lively! This is a crowd pleaser and an everyday wine for your fridge.  Michigan Pinot grigio is as good as it gets!

2017 Reserve Cabernet franc: Bold berry and spice with hints of sandalwood. Silky tannins almost seem sweet. This wine is luscious and shows off how good Cab franc can be.

2017 Reserve Cabernet franc Sophie’s Vineyard: From our estate vineyard near Lawton, 2017 was the first year of production for this special wine. Berry, plum and spice aromas are seamlessly integrated with the soft, silky palate. Rich and satisfying, this is one to lay down for a few years or sip and enjoy now. Pairs well with stews and roasts and the heartier fare of fall and winter

2017 Reserve Serendipity: Our classic Bordeaux blend of Merlot, Cabernet sauvignon and Cabernet franc. Berry and allspice aroma with a hint of mocha. The Cab sauvignon adds nice tannin structure to the palate. Long, satisfying finish begs another sip.
